Test day

Test takers are advised that pre-test procedures can take time. It is recommended that your leave sufficient time (at least 2 hours) between tests if you are sitting two in one day.

Please note that the pre-test procedures do not count towards your test time and your test timer will only start once you have started the test.

Please ensure you have downloaded the ACER test app to your computer prior to your scheduled test session.

Test takers may leave the testing room to use the bathroom but the timer will not be paused for this period.

Items needed for your test session

Ensure you have downloaded the Guardian Browser
Ensure you have downloaded the correct ACER test App for your computers operating system:
Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS X 10.9 or higher or Mac M1 chip with OS X 10.10 or higher.
A personal computer or laptop with a webcam, microphone, and speakers (excluding school and workplace devices)

Tablets and mobile phones including Nexus, iPad, Tab, Note, etc. are not supported
Stable internet connection
A small erasable whiteboard and pen, OR 2 pieces of A4 sized scratch paper and a pen or pencil
Acceptable current and photo-bearing identification document
Acceptable identification information
A hard surface on which to place your laptop such as a desk or table and chair. (ProctorU will not permit you to sit the test on a bed.)

: If you are not able to access a computer please contact the STAT Office for advice.

: The STAT Multiple Choice test is 120 minutes. The STAT Written English test is 60 minutes.

You may use the bathroom during your test however, the test timer will not be paused, and additional time will not be provided for bathroom breaks.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition and require multiple or extended bathroom breaks during the test, it is recommended that you submit a request for reasonable adjustments for bathroom breaks. Reasonable adjustments may include additional time for breaks.

: Test takers are not permitted to eat during the test unless prior approval has been granted through a request for reasonable adjustments.

If you have technical issues or something goes wrong during your test, the proctor will try to help you. If the issues are related to technology, they will transfer your session to a technical support team member. It is important to remain calm.

We understand that remote proctoring can be stressful. It is important to know that if you are having ongoing issues and become distressed that you can stop if you need to. You can reschedule your session to another day and time, to provide an opportunity to resolve the technical issues you are facing. This may include finding another computer, changing location or both. If you continue to experience technical problems during your test that cannot be resolved, please email stat@acer.org as soon as possible.

: Deferrals are available for STAT Australia candidates who have booked through ACER. Deferrals can be requested up until the close of the current online test window (fees apply).

STAT booked through ACER may be cancelled and refunds requested up until the close of bookings for the current online test window (fees apply). No refunds will be given for the purchase of any STAT preparation materials or for deferral fees already paid.

Receiving a ‘Letter of Offer’ from your chosen university provider does not meet the requirements of ‘extenuating circumstances’ under the STAT Refund Policy. If you choose to cancel your STAT booking after the refund window has closed, your request will be processed as a change of mind and you will not be entitled to a refund. Please confirm the entry requirements with your provider before committing to a STAT booking.

Troubleshooting

What do I do if I have technical issues or something goes wrong during my test session?

If you have technical issues or something goes wrong during your test the proctor will try and help you. If the issues are related to technology they will transfer your session to a technical support team member. It is important to remain calm.

Common questions

: The test app is disabled outside of the test window for security purposes. You will not be able to log into the test app before your test day. On your test day your proctor will unlock your exam after they have taken you through the start-up and security process.

Your Proctor has to unlock your test for you.

You need to ensure you are logged into ProctorU using the Guardian browser on your test day. Once you have logged in, you will see a count-down timer. When the timer reaches zero a “Start” button will appear.

Click “Start” and you be taken through the start up process and connect to a Proctor who will perform a system and security check before unlocking your exam.

Prohibited items

There are certain items that are not allowed on your desk or near you during your test session, these are:

calculators (including computer-based and online)
dictionaries of any type (including online)
books, papers, pencil cases, rulers or stationary other than what is approved
all additional items on surface that you are taking your test from (eg desk) that are not permanently affixed or approved for the test
mobile phones/smartphones/smart watches or other communication devices
watches of any type
audio or recording devices, with or without earphones
headphones, earbuds or earplugs
bags, briefcases or crash helmets
pets should be in another room or part of the house when testing online – prior approval is required to have support animals present
food (unless prior consent has been given by ACER)
smoking, vaping or smokeless tobacco (dipping) during online test sessions, including the start-up process
music, TV and/or other background noise (unless prior consent has been given by ACER)
non-religious head coverings that obstruct the eyes and/or ears (including sunglasses)
additional display monitors
no additional cables leaving the computer outside of the mouse, keyboard, ethernet and power cables
test takers must be seated at a hard surface such as a desk. It is not permitted to take the test sitting on beds, couches or on the floor
test takers' backs should be facing the door (if possible)
rooms where a clear glass wall would allow someone else to view the computer screen are not permitted.
No unlicensed software on your computer as ProctorU will not permit you to sit the test.

Misconduct

The STAT is a high stakes test; the results of the test have the potential to make a major impact on the future study plans of the test taker. For this reason, ACER has established security procedures which will be strictly enforced at all times. Cheating or any breach of the test rules is viewed seriously and will attract penalties.

Any test taker found to be cheating will automatically have their STAT results cancelled and may be prohibited from registering to take the STAT again.

The following are breaches of test rules:

giving false or misleading information during the registration process
attempting to gain access to test questions prior to the test
attempting to gain unauthorised access to, copy and/or share the test and test content
attempting to take the test on behalf of another person
allowing another person to attempt to take the test on your behalf
failure to destroy notes at the completion of the test
failure to follow test proctor’s instructions at all times
giving or receiving assistance during the test
creating a disturbance
using unauthorised aids including but not limited to notes, calculator, mobile phone, recording device, smart devices or accessing the internet.
