Disruptions to the academic year mean that UK universities face a real challenge in selecting their applicants.
Support your selection process and evaluate skills essential to university study with the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT).
  • Gain an understanding of applicants’ aptitude for university study
  • Assess applicants’ ability to understand and analyse information, and to think critically
  • Complement existing information about academic potential

Measure relevant skills

Verbal reasoning
Quantitative reasoning
Written expression
Combine with actual or predicted A level results to make fair comparisons of applicants from different backgrounds.

The use of aptitude test results in combination with school achievement is shown to be a more powerful means of predicting success at university than either measure alone.1

How STAT is delivered

Register online

Applicants sign up to our online registration system directly. A summary of registrations is provided to your university.

Sit secure test online

STAT online tests are conducted over a secure internet connection under live (webcam) supervision, ensuring the required security for a high-stakes test.

Receive results

Results for each test section are reported directly to your university as well as to applicants. Cut-off scores can be set to suit different degree programmes.

STAT Quality Assurance

STAT is rigorously designed by teams of experienced higher education assessment and content experts.

Each test question is carefully developed, scrutinised, trialled and analysed before being included in the test.

STAT is produced by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) – a not-for-profit organisation that is one of the world’s leading educational research and assessment bodies.

All scoring is undertaken at ACER and analysed by experienced psychometricians. Together this ensures that STAT is relevant, valid and reliable.

Trusted by universities around the
world for over 20 years

ACER works with universities in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and beyond to enable candidate selection that is transparent, equitable and efficient.
